Summary

This work is the first French monograph of Steven Pippin, compiling his questionings, showing his technical prowesses and poetic thoughts about photography.

Description

The digital revolution was already underway when Steven Pippin became famous with his silver halide proto-photography, taken with everyday-life objects used as darkroom (bathtubs, closets or washing-machines, which is for Pippin the ideal item to take a picture of its environment). Like an engineer, he reinvents the camera, developping new systems and hybrid machines he calls "Non-Cameras". He presents on the same page his invention and its often imperfect results, whose aesthetic is fundamentally linked to the machine that created it.

Steven Pippin went as far as shooting a gun in a camera so as to take a picture of the bullet penetrating the photographic film...
